The tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad has claimed over 240 lives, with only one survivor. The black box has been recovered, and investigators are analyzing flight data to determine the cause. Aviation experts suggest possible reasons, including power loss, fuel contamination, bird strike, or flap error.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered enhanced safety checks on Air India’s Boeing 787 fleet, focusing on GEnx engines and key systems. The Tata Group, Air India’s parent company, has announced ₹1 crore compensation for each victim’s family and will cover medical expenses for the injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site and met survivors, while Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is set to visit tomorrow. A high-level multi-disciplinary committee has been formed to investigate the crash.
The wreckage of the London-bound flight AI-171 was found in a residential area, causing additional casualties on the ground. The victims’ identification relies entirely on DNA results, as the bodies were charred beyond recognition.
The pilot’s last transmission to Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control (ATC) was a desperate Mayday call, stating: “MAYDAY… MAYDAY… MAYDAY… NO POWER… NO THRUST… GOING DOWN…”. The aircraft had climbed 650 feet before rapidly losing altitude. All subsequent ATC attempts to re-establish contact went unanswered.
Authorities are expected to hold a press briefing soon to provide further updates.
